Stilform Refills Explained: Which Refill Fits Which Pen and How to Change It
The writing system—not the material—determines which Stilform refill fits which pen: PEN and AEON ballpoint pens use G2 standard refills (Stilform supplies one from SCHMIDT Technology), the ARC gel pen uses the Pilot Juice Up LP3RF, the FLOW rollerball uses the Schmidt P 8127, and the INK fountain pen uses international standard cartridges or the converter, along with replacement nibs from Peter Bock. With the AEON pencil, the tip—whether Eternal or graphite—is replaced magnetically. Whether the body is made of aluminum, titanium, brass, or magnesium doesn’t matter; the internal mechanism is the same within a series. You can find details here on exactly what goes where, how to replace the tip, and which third-party refills work. We carry all pens and refills on the Stilform brand page.

PEN and AEON ballpoint pens: G2 refill, such as Schmidt
Both Stilform ballpoint pens use the same G2-standard refill, a widely used format for high-capacity refills. Stilform includes a refill developed in collaboration with SCHMIDT Technology, a German manufacturer that has been supplying writing instrument manufacturers without their own refill production for decades. Replacement refills are available in packs of two in black or blue. Because the format is open, any other G2 refill will also fit; Stilform cites the Schmidt P900 as an example. That’s why a PEN will still be able to find refills ten years from now.
The process for replacing the refill differs between the two models. With the PEN, you unscrew the barrel, pull out the old refill along with the spring, insert the new one, and screw it back on. With the AEON ballpoint pen, the twist mechanism is hidden inside the tip; you also unscrew the barrel, and the refill is inserted from the front. The following applies to both: they are not compatible with the ARC gel refill, even though it is also built in the G2 format. Store the ballpoint refill lying flat and sealed; this prevents the ball from drying out.

ARC Gel Pens: Pilot Juice Up LP3RF in 0.3, 0.4, or 0.5 mm
The ARC is the only pen in this style line that features a Japanese gel refill. The Pilot Juice Up LP3RF is among the finest gel refills available; its 0.3 mm line width ensures that even small handwriting and architectural sketches remain legible. It is permanent and smudge-proof, and dries quickly enough for left-handed users. One Horizon offers gel pen refills in black, blue, and red, each available in 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5 mm. The Juice Up is also available at stationery stores; it fits any pen with a G2 format.
To replace the refill, remove the cap, unscrew the barrel, and replace the refill. Important for the shelf life of the gel refill: Always close the ARC cap completely; otherwise, the tip will dry out. If the refill stops working, replacing it is more effective than trying to write on paper.

FLOW Rollerball Pens: Schmidt P 8127 or P 8126 and P 8120
Rollerball pens have a well-known problem: after a few days of not being used, the tip fails to write on the first stroke. That’s why Stilform uses the Schmidt P 8127 from the Black Forest in the FLOW; according to the manufacturer, it has a reservoir that keeps the ball moist and ensures reliable writing even after prolonged periods of inactivity. The rollerball refills are available in black, blue, red, and green with 0.6 or 0.7 mm tip sizes. According to Stilform, the Schmidt P 8126 and P 8120 are also compatible, so you have three line widths to choose from. Not compatible with PEN, AEON, and ARC.
Replacement is the same as with the ARC: Remove the cap, unscrew the barrel, and replace the refill. Store opened refills lying flat, and make sure to close the cap completely after writing—this is the most common cause of skipping in rollerball pens.

INK Fountain Pens: Cartridges, Converters, and Nibs as Replacement Parts
The INK is compatible with all international standard cartridges, according to the manufacturer’s website. If you want to use ink from a bottle, use the included converter in the standard IC-10: insert it in place of the cartridge, dip the nib into the ink bottle, turn the black knob, and the piston will draw 0.5 ml into the chamber. Rinse with clean water before each color change; otherwise, the leftover inks will mix.
With the INK, the nib is also a replaceable part, which makes it four pens in one. All nibs are Type 076 from Peter Bock in Heidelberg, one of the few remaining independent nib manufacturers in Europe, and fit any INK, whether aluminum or titanium. You can choose from polished steel (even, smooth—the standard), black steel (same writing characteristics, lacquered), titanium (slightly flexible, more direct), and 14-karat gold (soft, adapts to the hand), each available in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, and Broad. EF for small handwriting and thin paper; B for signatures. If you’re unsure, M is your best bet. The replaceable nib is swapped out like a refill; the tip is delicate, so don’t press down on it or drop it.

AEON Pencil: Eternal tip or graphite, with magnetic tip replacement
The AEON doesn’t have a lead tip in the traditional sense; the tip itself is the consumable part, and it stays in place magnetically. Remove it, snap on a new one—it takes two seconds and requires no tools. The Eternal tip is made of a non-toxic metal alloy, draws a line like a 2H pencil, and wears down so slowly that most people never replace it. It can be erased, but not as completely as graphite, and isn’t suitable for shading. The graphite tips in the 3-pack are available in HB and 2B; they wear down like a regular pencil and can be sharpened with fine sandpaper—no sharpener is needed.
Both tips fit the AEON pencil, AEON Nano, and AEON Pure, in all materials. The graphite tip is more likely to break if dropped than the Eternal tip, so keep the Eternal in your jacket pocket. You can read more about the concept in the article on the AEON.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stilform Refills
Which refill fits the Stilform PEN?
Any standard G2 refill, such as the Schmidt P900. Stilform includes a refill developed in collaboration with SCHMIDT Technology; replacement refills are available in a 2-pack in black or blue. This same refill fits the AEON ballpoint pen, but not the ARC gel pen.
Does the ballpoint pen refill also fit in the ARC gel pen?
No. The ARC requires Gelmine Pilot Juice Up LP3RF refills in 0.3, 0.4, or 0.5 mm. According to Stilform, this is the most common mix-up, even though both refills are in the G2 format.
What type of refill does the Stilform FLOW rollerball pen use?
The Schmidt P 8127 in 0.6 or 0.7 mm, in black, blue, red, or green. According to Stilform, the Schmidt P 8126 and P 8120 are also compatible. The refill does not fit in PEN, AEON, or ARC pens.
Which cartridges fit the Stilform INK fountain pen?
All international standard cartridges. For ink in glass bottles, the INK comes with a standard IC-10 converter holding 0.5 ml. The nib is also a replaceable part: Type 076 by Peter Bock, available in steel, black steel, titanium, or 14-karat gold, each in EF, F, M, and B sizes.
How do I replace the refill in the Stilform ballpoint pen?
Unscrew the barrel, pull out the old refill along with the spring, insert the new refill, and screw the barrel back on. For the PEN, remove the magnetic cap first. On the AEON ballpoint pen, the twist mechanism is located in the tip, and the refill is inserted from the front.
How often do I need to replace the Eternal tip on the AEON?
Practically never. According to Stilform, the metal alloy tip wears down so slowly that most people never replace it. It only breaks if it’s knocked or dropped. The graphite tip, on the other hand, gets shorter like a pencil and can be sharpened with sandpaper.
A pen that gets refilled
Stilform does not use any special refills in its pens that are exclusive to the manufacturer. G2, Pilot Juice Up, Schmidt P 8127, international refills, Type 076 nibs: these are all open-standard formats that will still be available ten years from now. We carry the matching refills, tips, and nibs alongside all pens in the Pens & Markers category.
